The Creative Bike Project

2022

How can young people use bikes as a facilitator for social and creative practice in London?

These bikes are designed to begin as a blank canvas.

A bike can say so much about a users psychology - the colours and the shapes for example, but we shouldn’t force young people into these stereotypes. If a bike tells the story of its user, it should be their own story. This allows the users to express themselves through an object that is traditionally associated with childhood. In doing so, this allows them to exhibit who they truly are.

The project was delivered through a series of workshops with a London based youth charity. During these workshops, the bikes were assembled and decorated.

The sessions also involved maintenance workshops and cycle proficiency classes.

All bikes are functional, and built using traditional methods.
